Staring Into the Abyss
2005-02-09, .
Finally, I feel like I have enough spare brain power to write. I've been, much to my detriment, staring too much into the abyss that is our dying nation, as of late.
Our lives are reaching the point of hyper-busy - what, with the business warming up to an official start, getting preliminaries on supplies for building our master suite, and fretting endlessly over our impending trip to China. All this, coupled with spending quality time with the kids and squeezing in some time for house maintenance, and you'd think that this was more than enough for one couple, one person to handle.
But no, I must add helpless misery into the mix.
Enter my near-obsessive reading of world news and expert opinion on the various atrocities, inaccuracies and acts of ignorance and hate that have been dominating the headlines lately. If you only read/watch U.S. news, you may not know what I'm talking about. The Internet, however, is still (currently) a wide-open window of information on a global level, where we idiot Americans can get some real truth, or at least something much closer to it.
So I've been reading about the Gonzales appointment despite his position on torture; about Ms. Rice's appointment, even though she bold-face lied to the public many, many times; the sinister collapse of the House of Representatives, via Tom DeLay; the gutting and emasculating of the CIA by the now-super-secret Pentagon; the continued war profiteering by Haliburton; and the near-constant slaughter of innocents in Iraq by under-trained, under-protected 'coalition' troops.
