Mandate (a rant)

Apparently, Bush isn't the only one in the country that thinks he's got a mandate (which, if you look at the word 'mandate' closely, holds much irony):

Now there's a good idea: instead of targeting the ultra-violence that permeates our culture, let's instead attack tolerance! Doesn't that just scream Christian values? The spokesman - I refuse to try and remember his name at the moment - says that the video will be some sort of brainwashing tool. Right; and 'Veggie Tales' has no affect on children whatsoever. Definitely no indoctrination tactics there, to be sure.

I honestly can't help but see this country plummeting into a dark age of mysticism and ignorance borne of shame and guilt and zealotry. How is it that so many centuries - millennia - have gone by and the average person on the street doesn't see that organized religion is just a form of social control? How is it that people can't live day to day as good, honest citizens without being forced into it by fear? Could it be that a populous capable of rational, independent, benevolent thought might not need the leaders that so love their positions of control? How long until the many are no longer forced, tricked, or otherwise compelled into capitulating to the few? This cycle of control must be broken.

Mandate. According to our about-to-be-resworn leader, 51 percent is a mandate to scorch the Earth with corporate politics and End-Time management. Time for all of us to get off our asses and do something about this.
