Goodbye, Year of the Stage
2004-12-30,

Considering how much I really don't enjoy musicals on the whole, it's certainly been a busy year in that vein. Five shows in one year, in one of which I didn't sing- at least on stage. I did a little backstage support singing in L'il Abner to help out the poor, tired teens that were being too taxed by the choreographer to manage to have enough breath left to belt out one of the numbers in fortissimo.

But that's all behind me now, and this coming year marks at least one very large change in my life-- out-and-out fatherhood. No playing advisor here; total 50 percent responsibility. Which I just realised is an oxymoron. Oh well, you know what I mean. Anyway, this means that there's a lot of work to be done. We need to build a room, plan plan plan, and I for one need to do some serious reading. Oh, and we need to, at any given opportunity, worry about how much this costs. I'm pretty darn certain that we won't be stretching ourselves too far, but that doesn't mean I can't worry about it.

I'm also thinking about writing up a FAQ for People With Stupid Questions, like, "Is she adopted?" and, " How much did your baby cost?" These are the kids of things that people actually ask, I'm to understand. I wanted to think that people were more aware, sensitive and educated on the subject of adoption; then came Who's Your Daddy?, the most despicable thing ever invented for television (save for Barney the Dinosaur).

On comes New Year's Eve, my and H's last hurrah, so to speak, for a good long time. Not that I mind-- I'm not one for serious partying anymore, so it's not like I'm going to be missing out at barroom extravaganzas or anything. Casual evenings with good friends in the future sounds all right by me.

We're without the kids this weekend, starting sometime tomorrow during the day. While this opens up an Adult Weekend, I miss them already. They were supposed to be going tonight, but extenuating circumstances changed that, so at least I can see them again tonight instead of not until Tuesday. I think maybe we'll do a little celebrating with them tonight, since we don't have them tomorrow. Which, of course, calls for pizza.

I'm outa here. Chances are, unless I get some time in the evenings, that you won't be hearing much from me next week, as I'll be doing the company's official 'product training' course for new hires. A formality really, but I don't mind, as I got kind of a bass-ackwards intro to their products at the outset.

Have a safe and happy New Year's, kids.
