Due Date
2005-06-21,
Happy Summer, kids. I'm so glad to see that June has returned to Ohio, after a week and a half of August and three days of early October. Dry and 80 degrees, just how I like it. I just need to remember to water the lawn; it's looking kinda sickly.
And what has the solstice brought us? Travel date approximations! We found out through a reliable grapevine when our appointment date with the US Embassy in Guangzhou will be, so we can extrapolate back to a departure date that is close to within a day or so. I don't wanna say right now when it is (because it could change on us and I don't want to get any hopes up), but suffice it to say that is going to be around the time we'd hoped. We hope. I kinda wish we'd started earlier (or a few months later), in order to avoid going to central China in the middle of summer, but things happen as they do, and we wouldn't have been referred this particular little beauty then, now would we? Things happen as they do, and fate will play itself out. It's a concept in which I still have a hard time trusting sometimes, even though I've seen things to fruition often enough to know that it works (in its own time, of course).
Meanwhile, the room in the basement trudges on, but is finally making some stellar progress. It should be done and primed by the weekend. This is mainly thanks to my neighbor, Ken the Contractor, who's been basically busting his butt to help us out over the last few days to get this done. I can't begin to say just how much we owe to our neighbor for helping us out like this, and have no clue as to how we'll ever be able to pay them back. A period of indentured servitude might do it. Maybe.
