Uh Oh, Here Comes Chaos
2004-10-21,

Call us crazy, but we're doing it.

After a brief but thorough discussion with the kids, we decided to go with doing Uh Oh, Here Comes Christmas. Turns out that the schedule will allow for at least one of us to be home 90 percent of the time, at least until things get really rolling. Somehow, I think, it'll take up more time than that and we'll end up ripping our hair out again, but we'll see.

The show itself is cute and all nostalgic like a good Christmas show should be. Being written by Robert Fulghrum - the guy who wrote Everything I Needed to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten, among other things - however, makes it sound written. That is, written by an author, rather than by a playwright. Written to be read, rather than spoken. It's supposed to sound conversational, these soliloquies, yet they come out of my mouth all contrived-sounding. Hey, you know what might be helpful in that situation? Acting. Duh. Maybe after getting the stuff in my head and memorized, it'll start to sound better to me. I hope. It's been a while since I've done actual acting-- musicals don't count, in my opinion, although La Mancha was close enough, I suppose. Time to work on my emoting.

In a more positive vein, we got notification that our baby paperwork has been officially sent onward to the Chinese Center for Adoption Affairs. Which means, of course, that we get to wait-- again. This time, we'll be waiting for our DTC (Dossier to China) date, which will mark the official countdown to Match Day, which isn't really much of a countdown because it's entirely possible that the time frame - which is currently around 7 months - could change now, later or not at all between now and then. Meanwhile, it's going to take China about 8 weeks to send us our filing date, which will have been about 2 weeks after mailing to China. If we're lucky, it'll still be within October, which will put at a month sooner, as they seem to match files in month-groups. So this means we're looking at May as match time, which is a bad omen for me; as my faithful readers will remember, May is ever a bad month for me. Perhaps the acquisition of a new human into the mix will break the May curse. Yeah. And small primates will take to flight, using my colon as an airstrip. At least we're not going to be traveling in May. That would be too much for me to cope with.

And keep an eye on those primates, because I understand that they never bothered to learn how to land, just take off and fly.
