Yeah, the Media's Liberal Alright
2004-10-07,

Something got past my political radar last week when I was sick:

A Wall Street Journal reporter in Baghdad wrote a letter to some friends that managed to make the web circuit and got published by Common Dreams that basically was telling it like it is right now in the Iraqi capital. Please read the enlightening missive here:

From Baghdad: A Wall Street Journal Reporter's E-Mail to Friends by Farnaz Fassihi

It's no wonder she's afraid to walk the streets-- she's freakin' Iranian, after all. Of course, she's been admonished for expressing her 'personal opinion' in her writing, instead of displaying cold, inoffensive facts. Gods forbid, a reporter calling it like she sees it, rather than in the corporate-acceptable format with which we've all grown complacent. Thusly, she's been forced into a 'planned vacation' that will be going on until after the elections. Egad. Sure, your average reporter on the street is going to be considered 'liberal', because they're liberal with the truth. However, the company she works for, as is the case for most of the news organizations, is owned by people that are, by and large, conservatives born of Capitalist motives. That means 'shut her up or the current administration will make sure that the corporate sponsors that control all their - and our - actions will stop sending money our way'. I heart Capitalism; it's my favourite part of this country, manly for the irony it provides.

Just think about it-- Capitalism, a system that is basically a financial version of Evolution (kill or be killed / buy or be bought) being heavily touted by a Christian country that is currently headed by a Creationist. Sigh. I'm so glad I'm an atheist: I may be wrong in the end, but at least I won't be called a hypocrite.
