Let's Hear It For The Boy
2004-05-18,
Excellent news: guess who got a callback last night for a part in The Music Man?
That would have been my first guess, too (that guess being me, naturally).
But actually, it was Simon. He's going to be reading for the part of Winthrop - the lispy "Gary, Indiana" singing boy in the show - this afternoon. Wowzers. I guess the director was more impressed than we thought at his tryout, especially after his initial breakdown. I'm very excited for him, though I plan on playing it down as much as I can initially. After all, there's going to be other kids up for the part, older and maybe more experienced kids, so chances are he probably won't get the part. I'm just happy he's getting the experience itself. Something like this is formative, and I'm glad I was able to help make it happen. It makes me feel like a quality parent. Which H keeps saying I am.
And if he does happen to get the part, it's icing. Of course, then I'd have to get some good video footage of him rehearsing. You know, for the odd episode of "E! Hollywood Story" or whatnot that will be visiting his history after he becomes a big star.
This is not to say that the rest of us are out; we're just not up for the big roles, which is not surprising at all. I imagine we'll find out by the end of the week as to whether we'll be involved. I'm blas about it myself. I can be in it or not, I'll be happy either way. I think Hil really wants to be in it, mainly because of Hobbit Hair, her infatuation object in the show I'm in and someone who will most likely be in Music Man as well.
Today is Crazy Day II of 'Crazy Week 2004'. This evening's festivities include Simon's callback, my rehearsal, and the rest of the clan running out to Beachwood to witness H's dad's last concert as a band director, as he's retiring this year. So much for getting those final touches done on the house before the home study visit tomorrow. Sigh.
