Weekend Damage
2003-09-21, 6:36 p.m.

The ol' body's taken something of a beating this weekend.

It started on Thursday, actually. I found that I had a dime-sized owie in the middle of my back. I assumed it was just a tension thing and that it would go away soon enough, as did the last one I had a few weeks ago. By the end of Thursday, however, it had spread to this line of wincing pain all along the left side of my back. Not good when you have a job that at least in part involves some lifting.

It didn't seem bad enough to stay home from work, though. But then something 'good' happened-- the 6-year-old had a fever and I was the only one who could stay home to take care of him. Which turned out to be a good thing, because half way through the day I was in some serious pain. Taking Friday off was, I'm sure, not the happiest thing for my co-workers, but hey, sick is sick. And I didn't get paid for the day, either, as I have no sick days yet. Which sucks, but it had to be done.

And since I spent the day with a sick child, what do I get? What he's got, of course. So the weekend has been spent in pain and sickness. About an hour ago everything seemed to dissipate, though, almost miraculously. The wooziness from sickness is only slight, and the pain in my back has reduced to about the size of a 50-cent piece. Sweet relief. And on top of that, I got to watch the Browns get their first win of the season. Apparently they've been doing badly so far cos I haven't been watching. Sorry, guys. Haven't had much time for football in the last 5 years. I think I managed to watch one whole game last season.

Now that I'm feeling better, I think I'll do a little house cleaning. We had some friends over on Friday night on the spur of the moment. Amazing how fast one can throw together dinner for twelve. We're just happy that people are interested in coming all the way to our house just for a casual evening. I guess our summer party did us some social good. Anyway, the kitchen's a post-party shambles, not to mention the living room's a mess from hosting sick people all weekend. To clean.
